Features & Applications
Hall effect sensors provide an effective alternative to mechanical switches with increased reliability as well as cost / performance advantages.  Using integrated bipolar sensing and CMOS logic circuitry with highly reliable semiconductor packaging and a small magnet, the Hall integrated circuit(IC) provides several useful functions such as Open/Close detection, Screen Orientation, and Function selection/control(example: Jog wheel or Track Ball.

ROHM offers four types of Hall ICs based on the type of magnetic field detection and detection output:  Bipolar detection IC with one output that detects a change from S->N or N->S, omnipolar detection IC that features 2 outputs to discriminate between N and S-pole detection, unipolar detection IC that will operate when a specific pole is detected(either “North” or a “South” pole), and Omnipolar detection ICs that are not pole specific and will operate when a either a N-pole or a S-pole magnet are detected.  With these output types, ROHM can provide the ideal solution regardless of the type of magnetic switch required by your application.
