NXP MCX E Series of Microcontrollers (MCUs)

Engineered for high-reliability and safety-critical applications

The MCX E series of Arm® Cortex®-M4F and Arm® Cortex®-M7 microcontrollers from NXP, engineered for demanding industrial and IoT environments, are high-reliability MCUs delivering robust 5 V operation: up to 4 MB of Flash, 512 kB of SRAM, and integrated functional safety features.

Built to withstand harsh conditions, the MCX E series extends the proven Kinetis E legacy with enhanced safety compliance (IEC 61508) and EdgeLock® security for a secure-by-design solution.

Key highlights include support for CAN FD, 10/100 Ethernet, low-power serial interfaces, and advanced motor control capabilities through 8 FlexTimers (E24) or 3 eMIOS modules (E31). Designed for continuous 24/7 operation up to 135 °C, these microcontrollers come with precertified safety libraries and comprehensive documentation for safety-critical applications.

Developers can accelerate projects using the MCUXpresso Developer Experience, Visual Studio Code integration, RTOS support, and the FRDM ecosystem, enabling rapid prototyping and streamlined development workflows.

The MCX E24 family is the first to launch in the MCX E series, paving the way for the MCX E31 family, which is expected later 2025. This phased rollout introduces a scalable portfolio designed to meet a wide range of application needs.

Features

  • Robust 5 V Architecture for Harsh Environments: Designed for reliable operation in electrically noisy industrial conditions, with full support for both 3 V and 5 V systems and compatibility with 5 V sensors.
  • Advanced Safety: MCX E Series offers program flow monitor, full data integrity on flash, SRAM, registers and cloak, power and temperature monitoring.
  • MCUXpresso Developer Experience: MCUXpresso IDEs, SDK, secure provisioning and configuration tools help speed-up development time with high-quality software and tools.
