Description:To further strengthen the security and continuity of supply for our customers, Littelfuse will be adding a new assembly and test site for Axial Leaded DO-41 DO-15 and DO-201 packages. The electrical performance of the affected Series will remain within existing datasheet specifications. There will be no change to the fit, form, and function of the products. Littelfuse 1.5EK TVS Diodes - Transient Voltage Suppression Diodes (TVS Diode 1.5KE440CA)
Littelfuse offers a wide range of Transient Voltage Suppression Diodes (TVS Diodes) and other circuit protection products. Littelfuse 1.5EK TVS Diodes are ideal for protecting semiconductor components from high-voltage transients. They can respond to overvoltage events faster than most other types of circuit protection. This makes Littelfuse TVS Diodes useful for protecting against very fast and often damaging voltage transients, such as lightning, inductive load switching and electrostatic discharge.
The Littelfuse 1.5KE Series of TVS Diodes is designed specifically to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning and other transient voltage events.
A transient-voltage-suppression diode may be either unidirectional or bidirectional. A unidirectional device operates as a rectifier in the forward direction like any other avalanche diode, but is made and tested to handle very large peak currents.
Littelfuse 1.5KE440CA Bi-Directional TVS diode (1500W) Benefits:
This 1.5KE440CA TVS diode (1500W) provides a significant advantage over traditional equivalent crowbar device such as automatically reset after the overvoltage event and the fact that they absorb much more of the transient voltage than their crowbar counterparts. Their p-n junctions have a larger cross-sectional area than those of a normal diode, allowing them to conduct large currents to ground without sustaining damage. TVS diodes also respond to over-voltage surges much quicker than other common over-voltage protection devices such as varistors. This makes transient voltage suppression diodes such as the 1.5KE440CA ideal for protection against very fast and often damaging voltage transients such as lightning or motor arcing.

Littelfuse supplies TVS Diodes with peak power ratings from 400W to 30kW, and reverse standoff voltages from 5V to 495V.
To select the correct Littelfuse 1.5KE Series TVS Diode for your application you should give consideration to the following:
Reverse Standoff Voltage (VR):
The device VR should be equal to, or great than, the peak operating level of the circuit (or part of the circuit) to be protected. This is to ensure that TVS Diode does not clip the circuit drive voltage. In the case of 1.5KE440CA TVS diode the VR is 376V.
Peak Pulse Current (IPP):
The Peak Pulse Current (IPP) identifies the maximum current the TVS Diode can withstand without damage. The required IPP can only be determined by dividing the peak transient voltage by the source impedance. Note that the TVS Diode failure mechanism is a short circuit; if the TVS Diode fails due to a transient, the circuit will still be protected. In the case of 1.5KE440CA TVS diode the IPP is 2.5A.
Maximum Clamping Voltage (VC):
This the peak voltage that will appear across the TVS Diode when subjected to the Peak Pulse Current (IPP), based on 10X1000us exponential waveform. The VC of each TVS Diode is identified in each series data sheet electrical characteristics table. In the case of 1.5KE440CA TVS diode the VC is 602V.
