Lower-cost MCUs with an Arm® Cortex®-M7 core and embedded Flash run at 550MHz

STMicroelectronics has introduced the STM32H723/733, STM32H725/735 and STM32H730 Value Line microcontrollers with embedded Flash to bring high-end features such as rich graphics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability and state-of-the-art cyber-protection to cost-sensitive new products.

Like earlier STM32H7 series MCUs, the new products feature an Arm® Cortex®-M7 core and operate at a maximum of 550MHz: these products have a higher clock speed than any other MCU that is aimed at deeply embedded products and that offers integrated Flash storage.

The new STMicroelectronics STM32H7 series devices can also interact with off-chip storage while maintaining full execution performance and security. Their benchmark performance figures of 2778 CoreMark®1 and 1177 DMIPS are realized whether working from internal or external memory, aided by features such as a flexible memory controller and an Octal SPI Flash memory interface. This enables designers to tackle memory-hungry applications, such as high-resolution, full-color graphics and video, which demand a large frame buffer, and so to create new products which provide a more sophisticated and immersive user experience.

Further assisting the creation of full-color user interfaces, the TouchGFX graphics framework and TouchGFX Designer programming tool are available free of charge with these STM32H7 MCUs.

The new STM32H72x/73x MCUs support advanced features powered by AI technology. Developers may use the STM32Cube ecosystem and STM32Cube.AI tool to port neural networks and to take advantage of computer vision through a parallel camera interface. When connected to one or more sensors, such as the IIS3DWB for vibration monitoring, ISM330DHCX with embedded machine learning core, or the IMP23ABSU ultrasound microphone, these STM32H7 MCUs can perform condition monitoring and other machine learning applications.

Supported by the STM32Trust security suite, the STM32H7 MCUs provide extended cyber-protection features, including on-the-fly decryption from external memory, and secure firmware install, which lets OEMs order standard products anywhere in the world to be programmed only with encrypted code.

Out-of-the-box security features include support for secure boot, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, and cryptographic key provisioning. Cryptographic processing is handled by a true random number generator, hardware acceleration for AES-128, AES-192 and AES-256 cryptographic algorithms, and support for GCM and CCM, Triple DES, and hash algorithms.
